Philosophy:
Recognising the status of English language as a global lingua franca, our department aims to equip students with the necessary competencies that are essential for communicating in the real world. Through our core and enhanced curriculum, students will be empowered to think, write and speak confidently. They will also learn to appreciate the human condition and understand life in all its multifaceted dimensions.
Programme:
At the heart of our English Language programme is a commitment to nurturing students who are Discerning Readers, Empathetic Communicators, and Creative Inquirers. Through our teaching, we aim to develop independent and critical thinkers who are equipped with a global perspective and a lifelong love for the English language.
We believe that stories have the power to create meaning and bring people together. This belief shapes much of what we do, as we harness the magic of storytelling to ignite a passion for the English language in every student. Through our Applied Learning Programme, Primary 1 and 2 students are introduced to the art of storytelling, exploring the nuances of vocal expression to bring stories to life. Building on this foundation, Primary 3 students delve deeper into story concepts and develop their ability to see the world through different perspectives. Primary 5 students put their storytelling skills to purposeful use, leveraging stories to inspire action and effect real change.
Our Enhanced Literature Programme further enriches students' literary journey by weaving together social and cultural themes, philosophy, and literary elements in a meaningful and integrated way. For example, Primary 4 students explore the key elements of fiction through the beloved classic Matilda by Roald Dahl, developing both their analytical and imaginative capacities.
